Quartzite Falls information: Quartzite Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls in the Baraga area. It starts with water flowing over chunky slate and then it slides over slate into an over 50 feet wide pool of water. The waterfalls are very easy to get to by passenger car, no 4x4 needed. The forest area is wide open in a primarily hemlock forest with a few yellow birch, maple, white pine, and cedar trees. This waterfall is above the slate river gorge in which severall other waterfalls are located and after the Black Slate Falls. If you were to continue down the Slate River you would enter the Slate River Gorge below. The river bottom is made of black slate with long veins of quartz running diagonally across the riverbed, most of it is 8"-24" in width, very cool to see. If I have time to hang out I will sometimes bring a hammock and string it up along the waterfalls to relax, and sometimes do some fishing. This is a very picturesque waterfalls. If you have your rubber boots or have your watershoes on you can wade across the river above or below the waterfalls and make your way to the other side, or just cross the bridge and take pictures from the other side. I enjoy getting down onto the slate for pictures. You just have to be careful because it can be slippery.

Will be adding more waterfall videos regularly so keep checking back, you also need to stop by our Upper Peninsula Waterfalls facebook page where we post some also. If you love the Upper Peninsula be sure to check out FunintheUP.com as well.
